To bring this vision to life, Kimen Group has commissioned two artists whose works will soon transform the estate’s communal spaces into places of encounter, reflection, and dialogue.
From Kuala Lumpur, artist Liu Cheng Hua is bringing nature to new heights – literally. He is creating six pairs of 29-metre-high murals, each adorning the lift shafts of JM’s six residential blocks (see earlier visit here). Each pair features a species of tree found within the grounds of Jervois Mansion, surrounded by flourishing plant life and animal companions and highlights a “hero” animal – a species currently facing the threat of extinction – serving as a quiet but powerful reminder of our relationship with the natural world.
“We wanted to bring the wonders of nature closer to everyday life,” Liu explains. “What better place than the lift shafts? Instead of looking down at mobile phones, residents can look up – at colour, movement, and life.”
Liu’s work continues at ground level, where he is installing a series of playful sculptures of animals and insects – rendered in primary colours and cheerful polka dots. In an increasingly urbanised Singapore, where children may grow up unfamiliar with nature, these sculptures aim to delight, educate, and endear. They are also designed as tactile “placemakers” – inviting landmarks where neighbours might pause, children might gather, and friendships might begin.
Adding another artistic dimension to Jervois Mansion is Singapore-based photographer Ivan Joshua Loh, whose photographic series, Mirror Mirror, captures the quiet beauty of nature in Singapore. Drawing from nature’s imperfect lines, vibrant colours, flowing forms, textures, and natural reflections, Loh’s invites viewers to pause, reflect, and see beyond the obvious. Visually engaging and introspective, his photographs encourage a deeper awareness of both our natural environment and ourselves.
“The conspicuous incorporation of the arts, nature and community is part of our overall branding,” says Kimen Group executive director Arthur Aw. “We hope they become catalysts for conversation, connection, and shared identity. Whether they spark joy, curiosity, or contemplation, we believe art and nature have the power to bring people closer together.”
In a time when city living can feel isolating, Jervois Mansion aspires to be something different: a home where art inspires harmonious living with nature, and where community and social bonds are strengthened through shared experience.
